Blog One: VF Nutritional Plans. Why I Use One and How You Can Benefit Too!

Have you ever felt like you’re stuck? Maybe you workout and maybe you don’t, but you just know that something has to change. Well you aren’t alone. It might sound funny but even as a personal trainer, I still go through periods of time where I feel STUCK! September 2017 was the best example of this. I am the type of person that works out 4 to 5 times a week and eats relatively healthy (80/20) throughout the week. However, September did not look like this at all.

After spending the entire summer eating nearly “perfectly” and exercising that 4 to 5 times a week to maintain a beach worthy physique, I was exhausted. Following a trip to California at the end of August, I tried to jump back into that routine and fell FLAT.ON.MY.FACE! You know why that was? Because my body was too darn tired of doing the same thing day in and day out and it wanted a break! I didn’t listen to it though. I pushed my body to workout even though everything was screaming at me to stop. My joints hurt, my my muscles felt weak and my limbs refused to move the way I knew that they could. Similarly, my eating habits fell flat every day. I would usually start off the day super strong with healthy, wholesome and nutritious food. However, by the end of the day, I was into the chocolate, chips and ice cream. So what did this girl do? She took a break. WHAT? I know… shocking. How is it that a personal trainer can take a break? Do personal trainers really struggle with eating habits, portion control, overeating, and not wanting to workout? You bet we do! We aren’t all robots. Sure some of us have gotten really good at regulating our workouts and diets but that does not mean that we don’t fall down on occasion or have bad weeks, months or even years! We are all human!

In saying all this, I am here to tell you that there is a way out. Join me as I blog about my journey to sustainable physique and nutrition goals through the support of my VF staff. I will be blogging about some tips and tricks that I encounter as I follow my VF Personal Nutrition Program and workout regiment. If you are looking for motivation, education or just plain entertainment and insight into my life on a personal scale, then please join me over the next 10 weeks as I share it all!

What is a VF Personal Nutrition Plan and Why It has Benefited Me

At Vaughan’s Fitness we offer Personal Nutrition Plans. They consist of a week long diet plan that is tailored specifically to your personal needs, nutritional requirements and preferences. The plan is set up in a week long format as it is meant to be repeated at the beginning of each Monday. There is a shopping list included so that you are set up to head right to the store the minute you get your plan. It also includes full details of how to prepare and cook each meal every single day. The Nutrition Plan is meant to help you whether you are trying to lose weight, gain lean muscle mass, or anything in between. The goal of the nutrition plan is to teach you what healthy eating looks like. The goal is to create good, healthy habits that are sustainable for a lifetime. The only way that this is achievable is by determining what each individual is motivated by and creating either a short term kickstarter program that is aggressive and will lead to a more sustainable maintenance program or progressing slowly over time. The nutrition plan should feel as though it fits into your life quite seamlessly. However, if you are unfamiliar with a certain way of eating, then it will take some small adjustments. The overall goal is to encourage healthy eating in a way that still allows you to live your life and accomplish your goals. What could be more ultimate then that?

I personally have found this plan to be helpful for myself as my main goal is to lose weight/body fat percentage. I have found in the past that when I write my own nutrition programs or attempt to “intuitively” eat, I tend to go through phases of binging on things that I shouldn’t be consuming or going way over in my portions. With a nutrition plan, I feel more accountable to eat only the allotted meals that are on the plan rather than over indulging and I don’t feel like I have the freedom to binge just because I feel like I want to. This plan is KEY to my success.
